Georges River Council is currently seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Cook to join our fun and caring Children’s Service team. The successful applicant will be expected to create balanced menus and provide nutritionally sound meals appropriate for children aged Birth to 5 years, as specified by the guidelines set out in NHMRC Dietary Guidelines for Children and Adolescents in Australia incorporating the Infant Feeding Guidelines for Health Workers. We are looking for someone who is able to involve the children in menu planning and collaborate with the team to provide interactive cooking experiences. You will be prepared to come  out of the kitchen, cook with the children and be a key team player in promoting healthy lifestyle choices around food.

Key Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate health and hygiene practices
  • Demonstrated understanding of children’s’ varying cultural/language backgrounds and those with special needs.
  • Effective communication and interactive skills with children and adults.
  • Demonstrated time management skills
  • Ability to work within a team, providing cooking opportunities for the children as part of the educational program
  • Ability to work within a specified budget, monitor stock levels and place food orders
